MAIFS (MAI Family Services)
MAI (pronounced “my”) Family Services is a community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to serving the South Asian community in Michigan. MAI Family Services was established in 1986 by a group of community leaders who felt that the growing South Asian Indian community needed a local organization to provide assistance to families and individuals in need of confidential, professional and free counseling services to deal with mental health problems and domestic violence issues.
MAIFS provides free and confidential services in many areas:
· Helpline: Toll-free and confidential phone line: 1.888.664.8624 with support in all Indian languages
· Culturally appropriate counseling
· Free Legal Aid Clinic
· Interpretation and Accompaniments to various places (e.g. hospitals, courts, banks, DHS, police departments etc.) to offer support
· Transitional housing service
· Referrals to: Emergency shelters, Family Counselors, Therapists, Psychologists & Psychiatrists, Family Law & Immigration attorneys, Job training/ Employment assistance and medical help
· Community education workshops
